Extension-only capabilities are now available for Verizon partners. These frequently asked questions go through some of the basics for understanding the feature and how it works with your current service.
Extension-only (EO) is a feature that allows provisioning of end users and certain site services without a Telephone Number (TN). For example, users can be provisioned with an extension only. Extension-only users will still have ability to make outbound PSTN calls.
Key benefits of EO are:
- Simplifies the ordering process by removing the requirement to order TNs for each user station and site service. At least two TNs are still required - one for Main Number and another for Voicemail Portal
- Improves User administration by simplifying changes to TNs, devices, stations
- Removes unnecessary TN requirement for Nesting Site Service (HG, AA, etc)
- Potential cost savings on TNs for Partners and Customers
Key points to remember before enabling Extension-only are:
- Customers (and Partners) must use the Enterprise Portal to administer users and services. My Account/My Site is not supported for Extension-only enabled Partners.
- Once Extension-only is enabled, it cannot be changed back.
- All existing (before the switch to EO) users will not automatically be converted to support Extension-only. In order to convert an existing user to support EO one must remove the user by unassigning TN from the User Station and re-create it again as a new user. All new users created after enabling EO will automatically support EO.
No. Extension-only feature allows you to have any combination of these scenarios:
- Users with just a TN assigned, i.e. TN-only users
- Users with just Extensions, i.e. Extension-only users
- Users with both: TN and Extension
No, once your partner account has been enabled for EO, you cannot go back.
No, you must use the Enterprise Portal.
Yes, Extension-only users should be able to make outbound (PSTN) calls. Main Number of the Site will be displayed as Caller ID in that case.
Yes, at least two TNs are still required for each new Site: one for Main Number (used as default outbound caller ID for EO users) and another for Voicemail Portal. Main Number is required so thus Extension-only users can make outbound PSTN calls (Main Number is used as Caller ID in that case). Voicemail Portal is needed to allow users to access company voicemail via PSTN (i.e. by dialing a number) and it has to be different from Main Number.
No. To convert an existing user to extension-only you must completely remove and re-create the user. Upon creating the new user, you can now optionally assign a TN.
No, with the exception of Voice Portal and Collaboration Bridge. System will allow you to create and provision an order for Collab bridge without a TN but customers must be aware that TN will be needed for Collab Bridge to function properly.
First, you need to unassign the TN in the Numbers tab in Enterprise Portal. Then, access the Site Service in the Advance Services section and enter an Extension.
Since the outbound caller ID for EO users is the Main Number, the emergency services address is the same as the site address.
No. Changing an emergency services address is related to the TN, not the user, so an EO user cannot be a Remote User.
